Scripture Union Daily Guide 29th July 2024: It Is Hard To Kick Against The Goads
Daily Guide Devotional For Today 29 July 2024 (Monday)
TOPIC: IT IS HARD TO KICK AGAINST THE GOADS
OPENING PRAYER: Help me dear Lord to meet with you as I meditate on your word in Jesus name
SCRIPTURE: LEVITICUS 26:21-46
Question(s) for Reflection
* Q5: Is there any warning for me to heed?
* Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 29th July 2024 Outline:
God as a loving Father does not delight in punishing His people, so He warned them against disobedience well ahead of time. Read vs.21-22, 23, and 27-28 again. Consider God’s emotion as He pleads with His people to embrace righteousness and avoid sin. Unfortunately, the Israelites did not heed God’s warning, so all the judgment in this passage fell on them. They were exiled to Assyria and Babylon for 70 years because of their sins (cf: 2 King 17 and 25). What can we learn from this?
Although our God is loving and merciful, He is also righteous and just. If we persist in sin, despite the forgiveness that He has made available to us in Christ, in His righteous justice, He will punish us for our sins (Romans 6:23).
What can we learn about God’s character in vs.40-45? God always gives His people chance to repent and reform their ways before Him. He is not interested in the death of a sinner (Exodus 34:6; Ezekiel 18:21-23). However, His mercy is based on His covenant relationship with His people. You can also enter this covenant relationship with Him today (See John 1:12).

Closing Prayer
Dear Lord, help me to obey your commands always and never to take your mercy for granted.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with 1 Samuel 26:25
“Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do great things, and also shalt still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.”
